• COURSE DESCRIPTION

As an approach to healing, expressive arts therapy incorporates multi-modal use of the arts--dance/movement, visual art, writing, theater, music, and many other forms. The "all of the above" approach to the arts, with its roots in indigenous healing practice, makes expressive arts therapy an ideal adjunct to many well-established forms of trauma recovery. In this course, listeners will learn how they can develop an expressive arts practice and use some of this knowledge in their therapy practice. Resources and ideas for deepening one's practice and further training is also discussed.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Define expressive arts therapy and distinguish the differences between expressive arts therapy and other use of the creative arts in clinical work; Describe how expressive arts therapy approaches can be used along side many other well-established therapeutic modalities in the treatment of trauma; Implement at least two strategies from two different art forms from one's own personal practice or exploration into the clinical setting
