• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    There are four (4) DBT Skills modules in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) treatment. This course reviews the skills offered in DBT, including Core Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation, which are taught to clients throughout the course of treatment. This course will provide an overview of the DBT skills taught in DBT skills classes and practiced in individual DBT therapy through application to client’s real life experiences and movement toward their “Life Worth Living” goals.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Identify the 4 DBT skills modules and differentiate between acceptance skills and change skills; State the difference between DBT skills groups and process groups or other group therapy types.

    This course is intended for psychologists, therapists, social workers, clinical counselors, and addiction counselors. Instructional level: Introductory/Intermediate



    SERIES-BASED COURSE

    Please note that this course is part 2 of a three-part series about DBT. This course can be taken alone or as part of the series.

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:
    #1: Have an active paid Clearly Clinical membership
    #2: Listen to the corresponding course podcast
    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

    Course elements (including the course audio, post-test, and requested course evaluation) can be completed on a computer or mobile device via your Clearly Clinical account.

    This course contains a one-hour, non-interactive audio podcast which is available for free on all major public podcast platforms, including YouTube, by searching for 'Clearly Clinical'. You can also listen to and download the audio file via our course player.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Expert Trainer

Patricia (Patty) Gieselman, MFT is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™. She is the founder and Executive Director of Choices Counseling & Skills Center, which specializes in comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive experience working with adults, adolescents and families in both community-based and residential settings. During her career, she has worked in the public and private sector as a clinician, consultant, trainer, program director and Vice President of Clinical Services. In addition to offering counseling services, Ms. Gieselman trains mental health professionals as a provider of continuing education courses for the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (CAMFT), Board of Registered Nursing and the American Psychological Association and has been an adjunct instructor for local colleges and universities. Patty is well known for her practical yet often whimsical approach to teaching and problem solving.
