• COURSE DESCRIPTION

While providing behavioral health treatment to African American individuals is fundamentally no different than treating any other individual, there are a few special cultural considerations and treatment types that can assist in making the therapeutic journey more culturally-sensitive, ethical, and effective. The personal biases, beliefs, and values of behavioral health providers can greatly impact client care, and this course will explore some of the cultural considerations providers ought to keep in mind when working with African American and Black clients.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List two or more strategies that behavioral health providers can implement to provide more culturally-competent care to their African American and Black clients; Describe the role of the therapist in the engagement and treatment retention of African American and Black clients
