• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    Many healthcare providers struggle with adequately support patients living with chronic pain and coexisting conditions such as substance use disorders and other mental health conditions, including trauma disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, sleep disorders, and other psychosocial and psychological problems. Learn how the current United States Opiate Epidemic is impacted by chronic pain disorders, and the pervasiveness of these problems. This course provides education about the factors that contribute to the complexity in treating chronic pain disorders, as well as explores the etiology of the current Opiate Epidemic in the United States.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Articulate two or more reasons why the bio­medical approach alone may be ineffective in the treatment of chronic pain patients with coexisting disorders; List three or more financial, familial, or societal costs often experienced by patients experiencing chronic pain and coexisting disorders; Accurately identify three or more of the most common coexisting disorders chronic pain patients experience

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

    Course elements (including the course audio, post-test, and requested course evaluation) can be completed on a computer or mobile device via your Clearly Clinical account.

Dr. Stephen F. Grinstead is the Co-Founder and Chief Clinical Officer of A Healing Place—A Residential and Intensive Outpatient Chronic Pain Management Program in Camarillo California. He is author of the book Freedom from Suffering: A Journey of Hope as well as author of several other pain management books including Managing Pain and Coexisting Disorders, and the Addiction-Free Pain Management® Recovery Guide. Dr. Grinstead is an internationally recognized expert in preventing relapse related to addiction and chronic pain disorders and is the developer of the Addiction-Free Pain Management® System. Dr. Grinstead has a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science, a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and a Doctorate in Addictive Disorders (Dr. AD). He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a current Advanced Relapse Prevention Specialist (ACRPS). Since 1996, Dr. Stephen Grinstead has conducted workshops and experiential skills trainings to nearly 40,000 healthcare providers.
